The client
Fort Walton Beach Fence is a residential and commercial fencing company based in Navarre, Florida, serving Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa County and Santa Rosa County. The team installs, repairs, replaces and maintains fencing built to hold up in the Gulf Coast climate.
A solid local contractor with a clear service area. The task in this fence SEO case study was to move that contractor from the fringes of Google onto the first page, and to make the business visible across the whole coastal market rather than just its own doorstep.
The challenge
Search Console set the baseline. In the preceding period, the site averaged position 15.1, sitting at the bottom of page one and the top of page two, close enough to be seen occasionally but not close enough to be chosen consistently.
The Florida Panhandle fence market is spread across a string of coastal towns, from Pensacola through Navarre to Fort Walton Beach and Destin, each with its own set of established contractors. Coverage is the whole game here. A fence company visible in Navarre but invisible one town over is leaving most of the market on the table, because a homeowner in Fort Walton Beach or Gulf Breeze searches from where they live, not from where the contractor is based.
So the challenge had two parts. Lift the site the last stretch onto page one, and extend real visibility across the full coastal service area rather than a single town.
| The problem in one line Fort Walton Beach Fence needed to cross from the edge of page one into the results homeowners actually click, and to be found across the whole Gulf Coast service area rather than in one town. Everything below follows from that. |
The strategy
Fence contractor SEO rewards the right order of operations. The work followed the sequence that produces fence leads soonest.
- Google Business Profile first. For a fence contractor, the map pack is where the jobs begin. A homeowner searches, taps one of the top three and calls. GBP optimization for fence installers came before anything else: correct primary category, complete services and the full Okaloosa and Santa Rosa service area, and a profile kept genuinely active.
- Made the website earn the click. Good fence company website design does more than look tidy. The estimate form sits in the hero, the phone number is in the top bar and repeated in the header, and the areas served, services and gallery pages answer the questions that decide whether a homeowner calls. Name, address and phone match the Google Business Profile exactly.
- Targeted the terms that produce work. Rather than chasing searches that never convert, the fence content strategy concentrated on the services and coastal towns that generate fence jobs, so each page had a specific job to do.
- Built coverage deliberately across the coast. Because this market is decided by geographic reach, the work explicitly targeted visibility across the string of towns in the service area, not just the home town, through service area pages and consistent local signals.
- Tracked Google Maps SEO for fence contractors from the whole area. A map ranking changes depending on where the searcher is standing, so tracking runs from a wide grid of coordinates spanning the coast on an ongoing basis. That turns fence GBP results into something measurable rather than something claimed.

|---|---|---|---|
| Average position | 15.1 | 9.5 | onto page one |

Google Search Console. Recent period against the preceding period of equal length.
| Why crossing to position 9.5 is the milestone Average position moving from 15.1 to 9.5 is the moment a site crosses from the bottom of page one and top of page two into the first page proper. Impressions grew 59 percent in the same window, which means the site is now being shown for far more searches across the coast. That is the groundwork that turns into calls as the top of page one is consolidated. |
Result: visible across the Gulf Coast service area
We track eight commercial fence keywords across a wide grid of coordinates spanning the coastal service area, refreshed on an ongoing basis. Each pin is a real search run from a real location. Green stars are number one rankings.

Across the grid for “residential fence company”, Fort Walton Beach Fence holds high visibility across 68 percent of a large coastal service area at an average rank of 3.08. The business owns a deep, unbroken green core through Navarre and the central coast, ranking first across most of it. Visibility softens toward the far eastern edge of the grid, out past the bases toward Destin, which is the natural next stage of expansion. On a grid this wide, that is a strong, honest footprint.

Lower is better. Eight commercial terms are tracked continuously across the full coastal grid, with the lead keyword averaging 3.08 and the eight keyword campaign average at 4.71.
Result: from no top three rankings to eleven
Independent third party tracking shows the organic side of the same story. For a long stretch, the site held no keywords in the top three positions at all. Over the most recent months, it climbed to as many as eleven.

Keywords held in positions one to ten over time. The climb at the right of the chart is the current period.
| Zero to the top three Top three positions are where the clicks live. Going from none to as many as eleven keywords sitting there, in a market the business had never cracked at that level, is the organic half of what the map is already doing across the coast. |
